OUR APPROACH

We empower children and families through culinary and nutritional education, while improving access to affordable, healthful food for under-resourced community members.

By working with community partners to provide healthy meals and teach cooking habits, we aim to address kids’ nutritional needs at each stage of development.

A Message about COVID-19

In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis and the suspension of our traditional programming, The PB&J Fund has given much thought and discussion to how we pivot as an organization.

Our focus has always been and will always be: to serve the kids and families of Charlottesville to the best of our ability through food and education. Usually this takes place around our table. We have always recognized that this is something we cannot do alone, and that inevitably we will only be a small piece of what our families need, so for more than a decade we have leaned on fantastic partners to do this work.

After much discussion and thought, The PB&J Fund has decided to provide meal bags to families in partnership with Charlottesville City Schools modeled off of our Holiday Giving program. We will continue to monitor our ability to obtain packaged, shelf-stable food on a weekly basis and plan to deliver 300 bags each Friday beginning March 20th. We are prepared to offer the bags weekly while the City schools are closed through May.

At this time, we are currently unable to receive food donations as we are trying to limit staff time in the office.

  • Loaves and Fishes, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and the Haven ARE accepting food donations and continue to be amazing resources to the community.
  • If you would like to donate to our efforts, we are accepting monetary contributions via PayPal (info@pbandjfund.org).
  • We are limiting the number of volunteers involved in food distribution to maximize social distancing. If you would like to be added to our volunteer list, please email volunteer@pbandjfund.org.
