CHEF for a Day
A PB&J Fund program
CHEF for a Day creates more opportunities for young people to experience our cooking classes through a field trip structure. Our current emphasis is on third graders from area City and County elementary schools with a higher percentage of students eligible for Free & Reduced Meals. A typical lesson plan creates an enrichment learning experience that includes a safety overview, preparation of a recipe, a supporting nutritional experiment or activity, and group discussion over a meal.
Our field trips serve two purposes, introducing more kids to our teaching kitchen and motivating them to come back and participate in classes that build skill development and understanding of healthy eating principles.
